Finding Clarity in the Gray

Leadership would be easy if every decision came with a clear answer, complete information, and universal agreement. But that is rarely how leadership works.

More often, leaders operate in the gray. Expectations may be changing, resources may be limited, and the best path forward may not be immediately obvious. In these moments, people look to leadership not because we have every answer, but because they need direction, honesty, and confidence.

One of the greatest mistakes leaders make during uncertainty is waiting too long to communicate. We may want every detail resolved before speaking, but silence can create confusion, assumptions, and unnecessary anxiety. People do not need leaders to know everything. They need leaders to communicate what they know, what they do not know, and what happens next.

Clarity does not mean having a perfect plan. It means establishing a shared understanding of the purpose, priorities, expectations, and next steps.

When circumstances change, effective leaders explain the reason behind decisions, invite questions, and remain willing to adjust when new information becomes available. They create opportunities for people to contribute rather than simply expecting compliance.

This is where relationships and leadership intersect. People are more willing to navigate uncertainty when they trust the people leading them. They may not always agree with a decision, but they are more likely to engage when they understand the reasoning and believe their voices matter.

The next time you face a difficult or uncertain situation, resist the temptation to wait for perfect conditions. Communicate what you can, acknowledge what remains unresolved, and identify the next best step.

Three Actions to Put Into Practice:

Name the uncertainty: Be honest about what is known, unknown, and still being determined.

Clarify expectations: Make sure everyone understands the priorities, responsibilities, and next steps.

Invite perspective: Ask your team what you may be missing and what would help them move forward.

Leadership is not about eliminating every gray area. It is about helping people navigate it with purpose, confidence, and trust.

When clarity is paired with genuine care, uncertainty becomes an opportunity to strengthen the team rather than divide it.

Who's In Your Inner Circle?

Who's In Your Inner Circle?
RLR Leadership Consulting and The CORE Project

Think about the people closest to you. The ones you share ideas with, lean on for support, and let influence your decisions. That group—your inner circle—shapes how you see yourself, the choices you make, and even the risks you’re willing to take.

Sometimes, those relationships give you energy and push you forward. Other times, they hold you back. That’s why RLR Leadership Consulting and The CORE Project have teamed up to create Your Inner Circle—an opportunity to pause, reflect, and intentionally shape the connections that matter most.

In this experience, you’ll:

  • Identify who truly belongs in your circle

  • Learn how to set healthy boundaries when needed

  • Build trust that actually lasts

  • Choose connections that make you stronger

Because the truth is, leadership isn’t just about strategy or skills—it’s about people. And the people closest to you can either empower your growth or limit your potential.

We’d love for you to join us. As a special opportunity, use code Randy15 for a discounted price—but hurry, this offer won’t last long.
